Back in June of 2000 I was hanging out at Sidewalk Cafe in the east village listening to music when I heard this tremendous voice coming from this incredibly skinny guy playing a guitar with a giant hole in it. Alongside him was a beautiful 6 foot tall woman playing violin, And on the other side was an equally beautiful and somewhat shorter woman playing the flute. Filling out the band was a rather reserved stand up bass player with lightning fingers and finally a wild man percussionist making sounds with the congas never heard before. Together, they were making heartfelt music that told moving stories. So I introduced myself, we had a few conversations and I spent the next three years doing what I could to help them out as manager and marketing guy.
